STYLING 101: Hems on Trend
If you’ve been keeping up with the trends for the last several months, you may have noticed that the released hem trend has dominoed into fray-worthy territory. From looks slightly hitting above the ankle to a higher cut closer to your calf, you are sure to be on point in a pair of fringed and frayed cropped pants.
But wait, there’s more. If you thought you could get away with releasing the hem on some old capris, you thought wrong. There is much more thought and detail put into these unkempt looking hems. But don’t worry, you won’t walk away looking disheveled – these funky hems are purposefully made to look put together in that not-so-put-together kind of way.
There are uneven cuts, shark tooth cuts, straight cuts, (I suddenly feel a Bubba-Gump shrimp scenario coming on) – the list goes on, you get the idea! But the point is, is that all of these cuts are different but calculated. Not to say that a crafty kitty couldn’t create her own fun hem off an old pair of longer jeans, but for those of us who shouldn’t be holding scissors and fabric at the same time, the looks have already been ever-so-carefully crafted for us.
If fringe and fray just aren’t your thing, there are still plenty of options out there. A cropped trouser or pant is another way to win this season. And don’t let anyone tell you that rolled or folded cuffs aren’t in, because they couldn’t be more wrong. From a large sailor cuff to the messy 80’s roll that J. Crew has us all so familiar with, a woman has got nothing but options. Us stylistas (especially the shorties) know that rolled/folded hem lines are here to stay for now! Let’s be honest, we love to show off our cute booties – am I right?!
We would love to hear about your favorite hem and how you’ve styled it!
