Make Runway Looks Work for You This Spring

Make Runway Looks Work for You This Spring

  |

As I pour through trend forecasts and runway images, (much of what I do far before a season actually starts), I’m always excited to see what is new and how things are being worn, but I fully recognize that sometimes these trends can feel overwhelming and out of reach.  For example, this season, if the bikini top as a shirt feels like too much for a woman working from home or if a full feather dress feels over the top for a mommy on the go, then stay tuned for ways to be current, present and on trend in easy to wear ways this Spring and Summer.

The best advice I can give is to look at these BIG trends and take bite size pieces that work in your life.  At the same time, don’t be scared to step out of your comfort zone a little!  Especially this spring and summer- with things getting a bit more back to normal, there is lots to celebrate, and it feels good to dress up from time to time!

Color: this is the EASIEST way to start and definitely something I keep in mind as buyer.  Color is a great way to stay within your comfort zone, but feel more current. Buy or even re-wear pieces you have and still love that are trending colors. This goes for casual and dressy!  This spring and summer, get ready to see lots of green (particularly a lime, grassy green) and hot pink.  Also trending- pastel pinks, cobalt blue, and butter cream yellow- so add some tops in a style that you are comfortable with, and bam- you’re updated!

Details:  Notice the bold details on runway looks, and incorporate big ideas in smaller ways.  Spring and Summer runway looks were full of big details like full feather dresses, fringe, and so many cutouts.  Maybe you wear these trends by incorporating fringe earrings or a dress or top with some more conservative cut out details- still on trend but in a way you feel comfortable and confident wearing.

Silhouettes and Categories:  Maybe the mico mini is a little much for you, but skirts are more prevalent this year- so find a skirt that works with your life, and you have an updated piece.  Longer shorts and a looser leg denim, like a girlfriend jean or our longer denim shorts are another easy update for bottoms.  Maxi skirts and flowy maxi dresses were huge, and that is a style that works on many body types. Puffed sleeves and halter necks were trending silhouettes that are easy to wear as well.

Statements:  Matching sets have also been trending the last few seasons, and I think it’s such a FUN look.  I find my customers are hesitant, but also drawn towards the matching set.  I say, go for it!  The pieces can be worn together (show stopper!), or as separates and allow so many options for travel.  If the print set is too much, go with a solid set, and break it up with a jean jacket.  Other big statements- updated bohemian prints.  I love a good boho print, and it’s a fun statement for summer.

Now, let’s have some fun getting dressed up this spring and summer.  Peek through your closets to find pieces that will continue to work for you, and figure out what holes you need to update your look this season.  We are always happy to help with this!  Get dressed up, be confident, give compliments, and have fun! See you soon! -Rachel
